Job Opportunity – Manager, Strategic Grants
The Manitoba Law Foundation is seeking a collaborative, strategic, and highly organized individual to join our team as Manager, Strategic Grants.
This full-time contract position (two-year term, renewable up to five years) plays a central role in advancing access to justice throughout Northern, rural, and remote Manitoba. The position oversees a major funding initiative aligned with the Foundation’s mandate and strategic objectives and reports directly to the Executive Director.
The successful candidate will bring strong grantmaking experience, a deep understanding of the legal and justice sectors, and a demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and community engagement.
Applicants must reside in Manitoba and be able to travel within the province and across Canada as required. Occasional evening and weekend availability is expected for grant adjudication, committee, and Board meetings.
What We Offer:
- Starting Salary: $70,000 – $90,000 annually, based on experience and qualifications.

Position Overview:
The Manager, Strategic Grants oversees the full lifecycle of a special grant program that advances the Foundation’s mandate and strategic objectives, with a focus on increasing access to justice throughout Northern, remote and rural Manitoba. Responsibilities include program design, stakeholder engagement, grant review and monitoring, and impact reporting. The role also contributes to the Foundation’s broader grantmaking work.
The ideal candidate is a strategic and organized professional with strong grants management experience and a nuanced understanding of the legal and access to justice sectors. They are able to manage large-scale funding initiatives, work effectively within a small team, and operate independently.
This is a two-year contract position, renewable up to 5 years, subject to performance reviews and organizational needs. Opportunities for transition to other roles may be considered based on performance and organizational requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Grant Program Development
- Design and launch funding calls aligned with mandate and strategic objectives, including terms of reference, eligibility criteria and budget allocation.
- Develop and maintain program guidelines and funding framework.
- Engage stakeholders to inform grant strategy and program design.
- Lead engagement with service providers, community groups and sector partners to support best practices.
2. Grant Process Management
- Oversee all aspects of grant application intake and review.
- Provide program information and support to organizations seeking funding.
- Conduct due diligence and assess finding applications.
- Prepare clear, concise briefing materials and funding recommendations.
- Coordinate grant review board/committee meeting and respond to board inquiries.
3. Grant Monitoring & Evaluation
- Establish and implement frameworks to monitor grant performance and compliance.
- Review grantee reports and assess against objectives, outputs and outcomes.
- Provide feedback and ongoing support to grant recipients.
- Report on grant impacts to Board of Directors, highlighting outcomes and lessons learned.
4. Stakeholder Relations & Community Engagement
- Build and maintain strong relationships with applicants, grant recipients, community groups, and funding partners.
- Represent the Foundation at community events, meetings, and conferences.
5. General Grant Making Support
- Support the Foundation’s regular grant programs.
- Contribute to the development and revision of granting policies and procedures.
- Assist with grant budgeting and financial analysis.
- Support the selection and implementation of grants management systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education and a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience in the non-profit, public, legal or justice sector.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
- Strong knowledge of access to justice, strategic planning and grant program development.
- Experience with budget analysis, project evaluation, and financial oversight.
- Bilingual proficiency in French and English is an asset.
